Research Interests

As a physical anthropologist, I am interested in the study of nutrition, health status, and musculo-skeletal stress markers of people in the early Neolithic of the Central Balkans. My research focuses on the study of nutrition through stable isotope analysis with a particular focus on the evolution of the length of breastfeeding during the Mesolithic and Neolithic in the Danube Gorges, and the correlation of age of weaning and fertility increase. My research interests also include the role of carbohydrates in the diet of early Neolithic people of the Central Balkans and the impact of food on fertility. Within the model and intensity of physical activity I am particularly interested in those that can be associated with agriculture. Also, I'm interested in bioarchaeology of the Roman period and bioarchaeological context of animal remains in human burials.
