Research Interests

My research interest in the broadest sense is archaezoology. I am interested in human-animal relationships, mostly during the later prehistory (from the Neolithic to the Iron Age) and the Late Middle Ages, on the territory of the Central Balkans. My work is focused on detecting strategies of exploitation of domestic animals, primarily the exploitation of „secondary products“ (milk, wool and traction). Some of the questions I am trying to answer in my research include when did past communities begin to use milk and wool, when did they start to rely on the help of animals in work, since when are these products in intensive use, how did the strategy of animal exploitation change over time and what were the social and cultural aspects of these changes at the local and regional level. Since I am also interested in non-economic roles of animals in the past, a part of my research is directed towards „special animal deposits“ (Associated (or Articulated) Animal Bone Group) and animal remains in human burials.
